Biography

Ethel Johnson was a pioneering African American professional wrestler who broke significant racial barriers in the industry during the 1950s and 1960s. Known for her incredible athleticism and use of the standing dropkick, she frequently competed for the Capitol Wrestling Corporation, the precursor to the WWWF. She often teamed with her sisters, Babs Wingo and Marva Scott, and was a marquee attraction in major venues like Madison Square Garden. In 2021, she was posthumously honored for her trailblazing contributions with an induction into the WWE Hall of Fame Legacy wing.
